World Power Brokers Readying for WWIII

Einstein when ask how did he believe WWIII would be fought said that he didn’t know, but replied; “WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones!” A scary notion indeed; bet we all hope he is wrong about that. Yet as we look at the World today and the differences, which separate our world and divide us as one unique species on the surface of this pale blue dot, one has to see the logic of Einstein’s prediction.

Then there are the conspiracy theorists, who claim to hold the truth taking their ideas from the book of revelation, Nostradamos and from recent history of the Cold War; they believe that the powers to be are out to get them. If you look at the recent periods we see that the money elite and industrialists continued throughout the war. Hedging their bets on both sides, wouldn’t you, if you had that much investment at stake? Many of the Industrialists sold to both sides those things they needed during the build up and later into the war. Mankind in his ambitious endeavors, always buys into the sound and fury, generally picks sides or allows the process to continue thru inaction, which as we know is indeed a choice in itself.

Continental Airlines

Continental Airlines is one of the leading carriers in the United States. Its history started in 1934 with Mr. Walter Varney establishing the airlines called after him Varney Speed Lines at El Paso International Airport. A couple of years later Mr. Robert Six took over the company and moved headquarters to Stapleton Airport in Denver, Colorado. Six ran the company for forty years. In its sixty eight year history the company went through two bankruptcies, in 1983 and 1991.

On February 29, 1996, the Wall Street Journal reported that Continental gave its shareholders the fifth best return of any public company during 1995 and ranked it number one among eight other airlines with a return that was 213.9% above the peer average. Continental’s stock was trading near its 52-week high point. Continental was growing, serving more and more cities all over the world. On July 17, 1996 the company split its stock 2 for 1. A number of times Continental was named one of the “100 best companies to work for”. Everything was going just fine until September 11, 2001. Along with World Trade Center buildings the airline business collapsed. When in 2000 Continental generated $342 million of net income then in 2001 it was $95 million loss and in 2002 company experienced net loss of $451. It seemed that the second quarter of the present year went well for the company; finally one can see positive numbers on the financial reports of the company ($100 million dollars of net income for the 2nd quarter).

Diversify Your Retirement Income

Diversification, it’s not just for income any more. Let’s talk about the importance of not putting all of your retirement funds into one solution. Maybe you work for a company that offers a defined benefit pension plan. Defined benefit plans are really on the way out. Companies such as Boeing, GM, and Ford have such huge pension plan obligations that they can no longer continue to fund them.

United Airlines declared bankruptcy and got out from under their huge pension plan obligations. As a result, retired employees saw their monthly benefit drop by about 50%.

I would expect that GM and Ford would be following in United’s footsteps in the very near future.

For those of us who are expecting Social Security to provide us with a comfortable retirement, think again. In the next 10 years, the bulk of the baby boomers will be receiving social security and for the first time in the history of the plan, Social Security will be paying out more than they take in. The government will have to make up the difference.

This is why it is vital that you do not rely on only one source of retirement income in your plans.

Let’s say that you are expecting a Social Security check when you turn 65 or 70. I would strongly recommend that you have an IRA or possibly a 401k plan as well. Another great source of retirement income is real estate. You do not have to be a landlord to enjoy the benefits of owning real estate. Many people make decent money by obtaining property at wholesale prices and then reselling using owner financing. This is commonly known as “wrap-around” financing. You as owner get a down payment up front and you get to keep the difference between your payment and the payment you are receiving from the buyer.
