"Keep 'em Flyin'" Salute to the Ground Crews of the Eighth Air Force. 8th AFHS Oregon Chapter Meeting February 11, 2006

The program is a salute to the ground crews. It will feature Max Pyles, 20th FG,(P-38/P-51). It will also feature Warren Caldwell, 306th BG, and a graduate of the Boeing School.

February 11th meeting of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society of Oregon (8th AFHS Oregon) will be centered around the ground crews that kept the thousands of planes of the 8th flying for over three years of combat in Europe during World War Two.

Unlike the flight crews who flew anywhere from 25 to 50 missions before being sent home, ground crews (and staff personnel) were there “for the duration.” They arrived, were assigned to a base, and worked in their speciality until the war was won.

They toiled in all sorts of weather from balmy summers to the harsh winter of 1944/45 repairing battle damaged aircraft, salvaging crashed aircraft, fixing weapons, swapping engines overnight so that the plane could again fly the next day for the next “maximum effort” mission.

Truly unsung soldiers of the “Mighty Eighth” the ground personnel worked hard - and sometimes died - so that aircraft could hit strategic targets, support the ground troops in tactical support, and defeat the Luftwaffe to achieve air supremacy in Europe.

The meeting doors open at 10:00 and the meeting adjourns at 2 PM. Social hour starts at 10:30. Call to order of the meeting starts at 11:30. Lunch starts at Noon and the panel discussion starts at 1 PM.

Lunch is available at the Elks Lodge and costs $9.50 per person. Lunch consists of sandwiches, rolls, condiments and coffee or tea. You Must contact Tom Philo at 503-350-3744 and tell him the number of people who plan to eat at the meeting. You can also notify him via e-mail at secretary @ 8thafhsoregon.com.

Boeing receives orders for 47 aircraft, including 16 787s

Orders for 47 aircraft have been announced by aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co, to include 16 of its new carbon and titanium 787 Dreamliner.

Boeing’s new orders include 16 of the twin-aisled, mid-sized 787s which are due to enter service in 2008, 30 single-aisle 737s and one order for a Boeing Business Jet, an adapted 737.

The orders, which are from unidentified buyers and are worth over USD4bn overall, take Boeing’s total firm orders to 632 so far this year, according to Reuters. This compares to Airbus, a European manufacturer, which has 222 firm orders to date this year, with a 35 aircraft order from German carrier Lufthansa awarded this week.

Innerwall's NAC Solution First to Incorporate Instant Recovery OEM Agreement with Leapfrog Software Provides Unique Remediation Capability

Innerwall, Inc., a leading provider of mobile endpoint security solutions, and Leapfrog Software, Inc. (LSI), a provider of low-cost Immediate System Recovery solutions, today announced an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partnership. The agreement calls for Innerwall to incorporate LSIs FirstDefense-ISR® product technology into Innerwalls security software solution, a market-leading Network Access Control (NAC) solution.

Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) November 10, 2006 — Innerwall, Inc., a leading provider of mobile endpoint security solutions, and Leapfrog Software, Inc. (LSI), a provider of low-cost Immediate System Recovery solutions, today announced an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partnership. The agreement calls for Innerwall to incorporate LSIs FirstDefense-ISR® product technology into Innerwalls security software solution, a market-leading Network Access Control (NAC) solution.

FirstDefense-ISR® is designed as a first step utility to recover immediately and simply from critical file corruptions, virus attacks or any other system or application software failure. It reduces the time to recover a failed system to zero, thereby increasing network efficiency and reducing IT staff repair time.

Innerwall provides the only trust-based security solution providing real-time monitoring, management, alerting and active quarantine for mobile and fixed computing devices, as well as completing the security lifecycle by instantly returning compromised devices to a prior compliant state.

The combination of products will enable “network-less remediation” of Windows systems, a first in the NAC industry and a capability that differentiates Innerwall software from all other NAC solutions.

“We are excited about the synergy between our technology and that of LSIs FirstDefense - ISR,” said Tom Danner, Vice President of Strategy & Product Management. “A survey of our customers indicates a great deal of interest in this high-availability product area. Network and IT departments are burdened with supporting mobile computing devices such as laptops, which often have to be shipped in to be repaired. This instant repair capability will save our customers millions of dollars.”

The integration of FirstDefense-ISR with Innerwall solutions will ensure full network access control with an immediate remediation solution. Innerwall technology allows for security policy setup with real-time network monitoring and with FirstDefense-ISR, now offers a simple way to restore a system in seconds instead of hours. The device is simply returned to a baseline or compliant state, with a push of a button, decreasing operational costs and increasing productivity.

Leapfrog Softwares CEO, Bob Altieri, sees the product partnership as an ideal match for LSI. “This OEM relationship is a perfect fit for our technology and marketing objectives because it aligns with our business model and product roadmap. The Innerwall security solution combined with the companys Department of Defense customer base is a timely application of the combined technology offering.”

Innerwall partners and customers include Boeing, Sun Microsystems, Enterprise Information Management, Inc., Hawaiian Airlines, Statera, Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium, Sierra Nevada Corporation and the Department of Defense.
