France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications selected as Connexion by Boeing sales associate

France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications, a subsidiary of France Telecom which markets satellite mobile services, has been selected by Connexion by Boeing, a business unit of The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA), as the first sales associate for its Connexion by Boeing maritime service.

France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications has been chosen to offer Boeing’s maritime high-speed connectivity service to the commercial shipping industry. According to Boeing, its Connexion service is the first satellite-based, high-speed Internet system to give transoceanic maritime vessels access to information at speeds higher than those offered by current maritime communications systems.

The Connexion by Boeing service offers data rates of up to 5Mb/s from the satellite to the vessel and up to 256kb/s from the vessel to the satellite. Multiple maritime users will simultaneously be able to access the Internet, e-mail and corporate intranet and obtain information such as weather, routing and port information for vessel management.

Norwegian to purchase one used Boeing 737-300 aircraft

Norwegian low-fare airline Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA (Norwegian) said on Thursday (6 April) that it had decided to enter into an agreement with Deutsche Structured Finance & Leasing to purchase one used Boeing 737-300 aircraft.

The aircraft would be delivered this month.

With the purchase Norwegian has a fleet of 18 Boeing 737s.
