So why no comments about the delays to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner?
Filed Under Airlines | Comments Off
Strange. Whenever there is a problem over at Airbus the doom merchants are on here posting like mad. Yet now, when Boeing announce some hitches in the Dreamliner program it is oh so quiet!
Just thought I would try to stimulate a little healthy debate. ![]()
CharlesM, they would have to go some to beat the A380 EIS date, as Singapore Airlines start operations on 25th October this year! Also, I do know where to look for the right information, I just choose to not totally believe the spin put out by Boeing’s PR department. I have thought i inevitable, for some time, that this program would experience slippage - I stand by that, and still feel that the dates will slip further, maybe by 3-6 months. Not as bad as Airbus, but hey…..
It was inevitable that an aircraft so advanced would encounter problems, and for Boeing to claim otherwise was foolish. For a number of years they have capitalised on every shortcoming, minor or major, within Airbus; the phrase “chickens coming home to roost” springs to mind.
Wolf, I’m not disagreeing with you. I think the Dreamliner is a wonderful and revolutionary aircraft and I look forward to seeing it in the skies. It seems you are involved with the program, and you should rightly be proud of what you are all achieving.
But I think you have also made my point for me - if you are doing something this revolutionary there are going to be unforeseen problems and some delay is inevitable. Boeing are on record as saying how well the flight testing of the 787 software was going - and now they announce a problem with that! They maintain that they will still meet the ANA dates, by test flying “24/7″, let us hope no corners are cut!!
Airbus “screwed the pooch” royally, and heads rolled as a result. Let us just hope that Boeing have learnt by those mistakes, but I have yet to be convinced.
A little cute with the figures there, AnthonyM.
787 FIRM orders actually now stand at 706, A380 orders stand at 173.
Possibly also appropriate to do a like-with-like comparison? The 747-8 (the aircraft Boeing initially denied was even needed!!) has only 90 orders (cf 173) and the A350XWB already has 228 orders (cf 706).

Do you like Airbus or Boeing Better and why?
Filed Under Airlines | Comments Off
I don’t like Airbus as much because of the sidesticks. The pilot’s sidestick is on the left side, and most people are righties. Boeing’s yoke gives more control. Airbus still has wicked planes, though.
