Mixed News for Airbus
Filed Under Airlines | Comments Off
It might just be reading a little too much into a statement by Thomas Enders, the Chief Executive Office of Airbus, but there could be troubles ahead again for the company’s superjumbo, the A380
On Tuesday, Enders said Airbus was conducting a major review of its delivery schedule for the A380 and admitted that the goal of four per month by 2010 wouldn’t be an easy one.
It should have been a great day for the company. First up, Enders was speaking at the opening its logistics centre in Dubai, close to the headquarters of its largest customer, Emirates.
And there was an order from Tunisia, where the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, wrapped up a deal for 16 of the company’s smaller ‘planes.
“We are conducting a review right now and it might well be that we achieve that,” Enders said.
But his words, while erring perhaps on the cautious side, will have cast further doubts on the ability of Airbus to keep to its deadlines, even though the company remains confident that it will meet its targets.
These include 13 more deliveries this year and 25 in 2009.
Even though Airbus has now delivered the first four of six ‘planes ordered by Singapore Airlines, the company has been hit with penalties for late delivery
The A380 has been beset with design and construction problems from the outset and there have been persistent delays.
The main problem now is that assembling the superjumbo has required a total rethink for the company, and the current doubts are based on how the changeover from individual production to full industrialisation will have a knock-on effect on delivery, and whether Airbus can keep to its revised schedule.
The giant of the skies made its first commercial passenger flight with Singapore Airlines in October last year and at maximum capacity can carry over 850 people.
While it might be normal to carry out a major review of operations, as Airbus insists, the implication is that it has not ruled out changing its delivery timetable – again.

Huge Job Opportunities in Indian Aviation Industry
Filed Under Airlines | Comments Off
After Sept 11, 2001 when USA got struck by terrorist attack, almost all the industries has been affected. But Aviation Industry is one of the hardest hit, as the major airlines likes of Swiss Air and American airlines. But despite of all these happenings Indian Aviation industry though minute could withstand this pressure and had grown leaps and bounds. This is due to the growth of Indian economy and tourism industry in particular in the last few years.
In the last two years many a new airlines have come to the fore in a huge way and many huge industries have declared their wishes to enter into this industry. Another major leap was the open sky policy of Government of India permitting the existing private airlines in India to fly to foreign destinations.
It does require a special mention that with such expansions planned by major aviation companies and new companies formed there is a vast manpower requirement. Qualified manpower is in huge abundance in India but they need a proper direction to capitalise on this surge in industry. When the human resources needed by these companies were less in number, it was easy to tap from a huge HR bank but when the demand for such HR increased they are finding it extremely difficult to maintain the quality of HR selected for these jobs especially when more and more foreign airlines are flying into India offering high salary packages forcing the better of HR to go with these companies.
It is important to mention here that Indian aviation industry grew by 20% second only to BPO industry in services sector and then comes the concept of no frills airline the market for which is growing vastly. Many no frills airline have already announced their plans to start services to India a few of them are Nok Air, Air Asia-Thailand, Air Arabia etc.
The boom in the aviation sector in India can be gauged by the fact that in one year, the number of people seeking pilot licenses and airhostess training has multiplied three times. In April 2005, it was 300. In April 2006, the number rose to 1045. The civil aviation industry is booming. Indian airlines placed orders for over 400 aircraft worth a whopping $30 billion for its operational requirements. That shows a requirement of 5600 pilots, 19000 airhostess or cabin crew, 24000 technicians, 36000 ground handling crew and various other related vacancies.
And these aviation industry vacancies are all fresh vacancies without including vacancies that may come up in the existing aircrafts.
Also the pay packages offered by the various Indian airlines have also seen an upward trend due to very few number of trained pilots and cabin crew availability. Hence there is an opportunity for you.
Indian aviation is witnessing a mushrooming of new airlines especially low cost carriers. Besides the existing Air Deccan, newly launched Spicejet and value airline Kingfisher Airlines, there are Indus Airways, Air One, East West Airlines, Go Airways, Magic Air and Crystal Air who are getting ready to fly Indian sky soon. India is to see the launch of at least 14 such airlines. Low cost start-up carrier IndiGo had stunned the aviation industry by placing orders for 100 aircraft at a list price of over $6 billion last year.
It is anyone’s guess as to Human Resource Requirements, especially pilots, airhostesses, flight attendants and other cabin crew, that are going to come up in the Aviation Sector. Demand is much above the number of people acquiring training for the same. Jet Airways along with Sahara India has about 47 percent share of the domestic aviation market, followed by Indian Airlines (28 per cent), Air Deccan (11 per cent), Kingfisher (6 per cent) and SpiceJet (5 per cent) as on October2006.
Jet Airways tops the list of domestic and national carrier operators with 8,168 flights operating till June 2005. Indian Airlines ranks second with 7,562 flights, followed by Sahara (3,225 flights), Air Deccan (2,889 flights), Spice Jet (483 flights) and Kingfisher Airlines (267 flights).
The sudden boom in Indian aviation has caught even the normally market savvy global aerospace manufacturers unawares. Recently, both Boeing and Airbus said they had underestimated Indian growth. This means global players are also coming into the scene.
It wasn’t surprising since statistics compiled by Airbus Industrie showed that Indian carriers accounted for 327 out of the 2,140 firm orders for new aircraft that were placed with it and rival Boeing in 2005. This does not take into account the orders placed for smaller airplanes with other manufacturers like ATR and Dassault - which, too, are flooded with offers from private Indian carriers.
The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, Embraer, is bullish on the prospects in the Indian market. Their forecast is that between 2006 and 2010, the demand for 30-120-seater planes in India would be around 165, which is about 40 per cent of the demand of the Asia-Pacific region. The value of these aircraft would be around $4 billion.
They feel that a majority of the aircraft required will be in the 61-120-seat capacity segment. 70 per cent of these would be required for market growth while there would be a small demand for replacement.
Globalysis Ltd.forecasts growth in India’s aviation market, to be one of the fastest growing in the world, for the years 2007-2008. The Globalysis research report forecasts growth in India’s aviation market of
approximately 28% in 2007 and 24% in 2008, for a total of approximately 52 million passengers being carried in 2008.
From the above given facts this is the right time to invest in a business opportunity and anyone with cash and liquidity can go in for the kill.

The Expansion Of Birmingham Airport
Filed Under Airlines | Comments Off
Birmingham Airport is located in Solihull, a borough of the city of Birmingham; the airport itself is around six miles away from the centre of the city. In terms of size, it is the sixth largest airport in the UK with a host of shops, restaurants, car hire provisions and other transport links. Currently the airport has direct link to the M42 and A45 while it is also close to the M6 meaning that much of the Midlands is only a short drive from the site. Around a million passengers use Birmingham airport annually with routes to much of Europe as well as long haul flights to the United States and the Indian subcontinent.
The airport was originally opened in the late nineteen thirties but at the outset of war was quickly taken over by the military. At this stage the site only had grass runways although the RAF converted these to tarmac to accommodate large bombers. Once the war had ended however the site returned to civilian uses and came under the ownership of local councils. The post war years saw steady process and in the late nineteen sixties the airport runways were extended in order to accommodate large commercial jets.
After the runways were extended the next two decades saw further expansion. The mid eighties saw a new terminal that has the facilities to cope with around three million passengers annually. Even with a new terminal, Birmingham built another that was opened ceremoniously with a visit from the supersonic flyer, Concorde. Concorde visited once more at the turn of the century during its tour of Britain before decommissioning. The terminals remain however and now offer passengers a host of services such as cafes, restaurants, shops and car hire desks. Obviously the executive authorities are doing their jobs properly as last year it was voted Europe’s best mid sized airport.
As a result of a government paper ensuring all airports released detailed master plans for their expansion over the next three decades Birmingham released their development scheme. These plans set out a schedule that would see further extension of the runways and an expansion of the apron space in the coming years. As with most of the UK’s airports however local residents and environmental campaigners have been quick to voice their concerns with the expansion plans. Despite protests however, airport authorities are still striving to extend the runways in time for the next Olympic Games, being held in London in the year 2012. Additionally, the runway extensions are being pursued so the new Airbus A380 will be accommodated at the site.
The master plan also sets out the proposed plans for further expansion of the main pier and the terminal more generally. Designers would even like to put in a new satellite building that would specifically deal with Airbus transit. This kind of expansion however will require a far larger amount of apron space for aircraft taxiing. Birmingham has been forced to abandon its plans for a second runway although extension to the terminal building is likely to occur to increase the provisions for passenger numbers. Naturally as the terminal expands services such as shops, car hire desks and restaurants will be built up to cope with the increased passenger numbers.
Currently Birmingham is the UK’s sixth airport behind the four London airports and Manchester. While the top four have their positions somewhat secured, Birmingham will be hoping to build up its range of services to compete with Luton for fifth spot. As the city of Birmingham grows it is doubtless that its servicing airport will also have to develop.

international flights with Qantas Airways
Filed Under Airlines | Comments Off
Qantas airways is the national airline of Australia. The airline name was originally spelt as QANTAS, an acronym for Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services.
This airline is Australia’s largest airline and also the worlds 2nd oldest operating airline. Qantas has its headquarters in Mascot. The research consultancy firm name Skytrax voted Qantas Airline as the 6th best airline in the world.
The airline was founded in Queensland on November 1920 by Paul McGuiness, Fergus McMaster and Hudson Fysh. Alexandra Kennedy was the first purchase a ticket and boards its first aircraft. Qantas was able to build its own aircraft called the de Havilland DH.50 and DH.9 right in their hangar.
On July 1959, Qantas airways flew its first jet aircraft from Sydney to San Francisco. In the same year, Qantas became the first airline to fly its jets across the Atlantic. In early 1960s, air travel grew and demand increased therefore Qantas decided to order larger Boeing 707–338C series of aircrafts.
It also had plans to order the Concorde Airliner but the idea did not push through. In 1967 the airline ordered the Boeing 747 which could seat about 350 passengers. This boosted the airline’s profits and it decided to order four more other aircrafts, which were delivered in 1971. In 1967, Qantas Empire Airways decided to change its name to Qantas Airways, which is the present name.
The Australian government later sold its domestic carrier, which was Australian Airlines, to Qantas. This gave Qantas access to its national domestic market, something that was not the case before.
The Airbus A300s and Boeing 737s were introduced to the airline’s fleet although the Airbuses did not last long. Due to privatization in 1993, Qantas is partly owned by the British Airways and other international investors. At that time 51% of it was Australian owned while the rest was by foreigners. Since the airline carries many passengers yearly, there is a proposition to offer in-flight internet services.
Qantas Airways now flies to 82 destinations over 6 continents. By the year 2010, it plans to open new routes which include Dubai and Abu Dhabi. If you fly First Class, you are offered flat bed sleeping pods, a 10.4” touch screen monitor with AVOS, and AC power outlets on every seat.
Business Class also offers the same features as First Class with slightly small seats and touch screens. Economy Class does not offer many features but you can enjoy the comfort of their wide seats.

Providing Exceptional Service to Burgeoning Aerospace Clients
Filed Under Airlines | Comments Off
In the aerospace industry, the names of companies like Boeing and Airbus are always mentioned as if they are the only players in the aerospace game. However, there are thousands of smaller companies, ranging from media sales firms to municipal law enforcement agencies, which require services from aerospace firms. These clients are looking to invest in airplanes, helicopters, and other aerospace technologies in order to take their organization to the next level and provide a higher echelon of service to their customers. However, they often get overlooked by industry observers because of their lack of major firepower.
Aerospace professionals, however, have to show the same level of commitment to smaller clients as they do for their larger clients. While clients like Airbus provide massive funding to aerospace firms for a large number of services, the needs of smaller companies can be taken care of relatively quickly. As well, with hundreds of clients purchasing their services, aerospace firms and professionals can improve their standing within the industry. Finally, the need for repeat business in the aerospace industry is crucial for engineering firms and small clients can aid in these efforts.
Designers, engineers, and others with aerospace firms should look at projects with smaller clients as an opportunity to think outside of the box. Companies that sell charter jets or personal aircraft can help customize their products for a specific client’s needs. Municipal governments often look for the best value for tax revenues, which means that aerospace professionals often have the challenge of finding the right balance between price and quality. The feedback from small clients upon receiving and using their new product can be invaluable to improving a firm’s creative process.
Clients who are looking to make smaller deals with aerospace firms often are more hands on with aerospace professionals than workers who work with large clients. Buying managers with a telecommunications company looking to acquire a corporate airplane often visit directly with aerospace designers, unlike the impersonal communications that are typical with larger clients. This personal contact eliminates missed communications, ensures that the needs of the client are met, and that the parameters of the firm’s services are outlined sufficiently. Aerospace professionals benefit from this personal contact because they learn to deal with diverse clients and become more adept at explaining the services that their employer provides. In the end, aerospace professionals need to build trust with smaller clients in order to ensure their success in the industry and the success of their employers.

Reviewing British Aerospace Companies
Filed Under Airlines | Comments Off
The nature of the British aerospace industry at present is as dynamic as it has ever been. Companies by the hundreds have opened over the last two decades in order to take advantage of increased venture funding and a commitment to further aerospace innovations. Aerospace professionals and those interested in a job within the industry should understand the dynamic nature of the industry before applying for positions. In general, there is something to meet every professional’s needs in the British aerospace industry.
Perhaps the most famous aerospace company in the United Kingdom, and one of the biggest in the world, is Airbus. Airbus provides airliners to most of the world’s airline companies, including a near-lock on European airline business based on its relationship with the European Union. As such, it should not be shocking that Airbus brings in 22 billion pounds of revenue per year, with thousands of orders in waiting over the next few years. Professionals interested in Airbus should be happy to see that at 55,000 employees, they are not standing pat on finding the best employees.
Another major provider of aerospace technology in the United Kingdom is BAE Systems. The hard numbers for BAE Systems show that they are not only a player in Europe but a major player in the world aerospace game. BAE Systems is considered one of the top ten aerospace companies in the United States and has offices on five continents. BAE Systems employs 90,000 employees and brings in about 14 billion pounds annually in new revenues. Employee satisfaction with BAE Systems is high, with their generous benefit package including car leasing options, health care, and profit sharing.
One of the more honorable jobs in the aerospace industries is with the Royal Air Force, or RAF. This organization, which provides air defense for the United Kingdom, performs search and rescue missions along with its regular defensive tasks. The RAF provides sponsorship to higher positions for exceptional professionals and the intrinsic rewards of the job are highly valued by aerospace professionals.
A newer entrant into the British aerospace industry is the VT Group, which has been building warships for several decades. Over the last decade, the VT Group has expanded to cover aerospace and other transportation needs. Their 13,000 employee roster is expanding monthly to meet their burgeoning aerospace services. With 847 million pounds in revenues, VT Group is a growing member of the British aerospace industry.
